Ali Schachtschneider

Ali Schachtschneider is an artist and design researcher working at the intersection of fashion and biotechnology. Her work provokes and critics potential future applications of biotechnology using experimentation and performance to speculate and redefine fashion as extension of body. She works in the lab in parallel with interdisciplinary design research. Ali is part-time faculty at Parsons School of Design and teaches at Genspace. Her work has been exhibited at RADO Switzerland at NYCXDesign, SXSW, Arizona State University, Columbia University, PlagueSpace, Première VisionNY, and Parsons School of Design. Features of her work include Refinery29, Dezeen, Catálogodiseño, TextileisMore!, Design Alive and Art in America. She's received awards from the Royal Society of Arts, RADO Switzerland, and spoken as expert with the Wall Street

Journal, Eyebeam, ASU, Manufacture NY, and Parsons. Ali has collaborated with Refinery29 and worked on projects with Modern Meadow, Biofabricate, Genspace. She is based in New York City and is a resident artist at Genspace, the first community biotech lab in New York. Ali is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and a former classical ballet dancer.
