Coty has degrees in Biology and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He conducted two undergraduate studies on how academics and Native Americans each conceptualize environmental issues in their local community. He is an independent social scientist and journalist currently working on a project exploring the democratization of science and how free market alternatives to federal regulation of synthetic biology could create affordable, open, and safe environments for citizens to engage in the scientific process. In his free time, Coty is an amateur boxer and enjoys reading and writing about a wide variety of topics.
