Edward has long-been interested in the science and policy of biotechnology, and enjoys exploring questions of utopia vs dystopia in an increasingly biotech-enabled world. Over the last five years he has been a mover and shaker in the biosecurity policy arena, and is primarily interested in fostering bio-literacy amongst the professionals that need to engage with biologists in the coming years, namely politicians, security professionals, developers, designers, and the public.

Edward is a Head of Research at the Exponential Institute, and co-founder of Desktop Genetics. In 2017 he was listed on the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Tech in Europe and nominated to the Kairos 50. Edward is a SynBio LEAP fellow, formerly co-chaired the iGEM software track, and was the UK Ambassador for Hello Tomorrow. He has previously worked at the European Union, VERTIC and Kymab. Today he is a trustee of SynBio.info. Edward holds a BSc in Bioveterinary Science from London’s Royal Veterinary College and an MPhil in Bioscience Enterprise from the University of Cambridge.
