In the era of genetic determinism, Filippos' research aims to understand how we can reliably engineer stem cell responses by simply not messing up with the genome and focusing only on the architecture of the cell's surrounding 3D microenvironment. In order to achieve that, he specializes into developing biomaterials-based platforms by converging interdisciplinary notions including electrohydrodynamical process physics, polymer rheology, cellular biophysics and image-based metrology. Current work involves the development of digital biomaterials for the fabrication of multidimensional stem cell culture platforms with superior control of biological function both in space and time.
