While training as a molecular biologist and researching genetic control of mosquitoes, Jenny got deeply involved in open science communities because she believes open and collaborative approaches are better for science and society. Now she coordinates OpenPlant and the SynBio Strategic Research Initiative at the University of Cambridge by day: two initiatives with a focus on developing open enabling technologies for research and education. In my spare time, Jenny co-organises the Gathering for Open Science Hardware and co-founded the Cambridge Biomakespace, a community laboratory for engineering with biology which is due to open later in 2017. She is also a founding Director of ContentMine, a non-profit producing open source software for text mining scientific papers and liberating the data to open knowledge resources like Wikidata.
