Linda Kahl is Senior Counsel and Director of Ownership, Sharing and Innovation for the BioBricks Foundation, where she directs the development of the BBF’s legal tools, including the OpenMTA and the BioBrick Public Agreement, v2.0. She focuses on legal frameworks and infrastructure supporting biotechnology in the public interest, and has worked extensively with academic research institutions, industry leaders, government agencies, funding organizations and other stakeholders developing and influencing access to foundational biotechnologies.

Linda writes and lectures on topics relating to open science. She has been an invited speaker at numerous venues, including conferences of the World Health Organization, European Science Open Forum, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences’ Committee on Science, Technology and Law. Linda earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Princeton University, and received her JD, magna cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law. She is registered to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Linda is based in Walnut Creek, California.
