Mary Elizabeth is currently starting her freshman year at Princeton University, where she hopes to study molecular biology, astrobiology, and creative writing. She has been an active member of Washington state’s first high school iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machines competition) team, iTesla-SoundBio, since its formation in 2017, and has served as wetlab lead for two years. In 2017, the team worked to transfer an enzyme capable of breaking down PCBs into e.coli, a more efficient organism that its last host. This year, iTesla-SoundBio is working to produce a cheaper and less intrusive LAL Assay.

She enjoys all facets of biology and the endless opportunities that synthetic biology presents. Mary Elizabeth is very excited to learn more about the cutting edge of the biohacking movement!
