As a graduate of UVA, Shaun immediately recognized the potential of Charlottesville. He has been enamored with the genomic sciences, specifically Synthetic Biology, since he was an undergraduate, and has endeavored to bring that science to Charlottesville through various different means. He has founded or helped to found several different biotechnology companies, including AgroSpheres, Contraline, and Kombucha Biomaterials, started a mentorship program called BioTrep, and is now turning his attention to education in the form of Open Bio Labs. Although he was fortunate to have learned from his two intelligent parents that started their own successful business, unfortunately not everybody has that opportunity. With Open Bio Labs, Shaun’s goal is to show anyone they can be a scientist, engineer, and an entrepreneur.
