soyo lee

Soyo Lee is an artist and researcher based in Seoul, Korea. She is currently interested in the history of imperial biological science in the early 20th century Korea and Japan, and has been investigating cases within the fields of biological taxonomy and natural history specimens.
Alongside with personal research, Soyo is a founding member of the Open Lab project at Seoul Science Center, a municipal science gallery and education facility established in May 2017. She runs a one-person publisher Lifeforms in Culture since June 2017, with two artist publications concerning cultural studies of plants in horticulture and biology.
Soyo holds a PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with an artistic intervention and research on historical human anatomy specimens in the US. Her works have been shown at venues including Mütter Museum, Philadelphia, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia, The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and the Seoul Museum of Art.
