Thras is a renaissance bioengineer, equally at home with protein engineering, machine learning, lasers and quantum computing (sometimes all at once). His research at the Media Lab focuses on the application of Deep Learning and AI in protein evolution, folding, and design. In the past years, Thras has initiated several projects with large pharma companies, acquiring invaluable experience in establishing and maintaining a fruitful collaboration with pharmaceutical organizations. In and out of academia, Thras has led the development of a diverse set of hardware and software technological platforms, ranging from building low-cost hardware for biology labs to orchestrating a cloud-based deep learning infrastructure for processing data from EEG wearable sensors.
